PORTSMOUTH, Ohio, November 12, 2008 - More than 80 members of the Ohio Association of Garden Clubs of Scioto County descended this week upon the Shawnee State Park Resort armed with boxes and bins containing more than 30,000 holiday lights and a wide assortment of other decorations. The group spent two full days assembling an overwhelming holiday display in the resort's massive lobby, restaurant and other public areas. This holiday season will be the 18th consecutive year the group has decorated the resort.

This year, Shawnee State Park Resort will mark the annual event with a "Festival of Lights" package including a two-night stay, dinner for two, two breakfasts for two and a complimentary Shawnee Resort holiday tree ornament. The "Festival of Lights" package starts at $220 for a lodge room. Guests can upgrade lodge rooms and also choose to stay in cabins. The Festival of Lights package is available Nov. 14, 2008 through Jan. 4, 2009. Guests can reserve the "Festival of Lights" package online by visiting www.shawneelodgeresort.com or by calling 1-800-AT-A-PARK (1-800-282-7275) and mentioning the promotional code "LIGHTS."

The Shawnee State Park Resort will also host a special free holiday open house with performances by local choral groups and a bell choir on Dec. 14, 2008.

"The holidays are a favorite time for many people in the region, and our Festival of Lights gives our guests an opportunity to visit with neighbors and friends in a stunning holiday atmosphere," said Bill Griffin, general manager of the resort. "We are proud to continue this special tradition this year."

Built in 1972, the Shawnee State Park Resort is known for the spectacular views of Turkey Creek Lake from the resort's inviting lobby and deck. The heavy timber construction of the lodge and furnishings and artwork crafted by local artisans add to rustic, inviting atmosphere of the cozy lodge. The resort features 50 guest rooms, each featuring furnishings hand-crafted by local woodworkers, 25 fully furnished two-bedroom cabins, seven meeting rooms and a wide array of recreational offerings, including an indoor pool with sauna and whirlpool, exercise room and game room. The resort also features an 18-hole championship golf course with stunning views of the Ohio River, two swimming beaches; tennis, shuffleboard, volleyball and basketball courts; a playground and nature center.
